    • 1). Fold the edges of one of the fabric rectangles over to form a 1/4-inch fold against the wrong side of fabric. Fold the edges over another 1/4 inch, so that no raw edges are visible. Pin. Straight stitch all four sides on the sewing machine and remove the pins.

    • 2). Place the hemmed fabric on a table. Measure and cut a 7-inch square from each corner.

    • 3). Turn the fabric wrong side up. Pin each corner, forming a fitted corner. Sew, using a straight stitch with a 1/4-inch seam allowance. The sheet will resemble a fabric "box."

    • 4). Fold the hemmed edges up 2 inches against the wrong side of the fabric and pin the edges. Sew, using a straight stitch, to create a casing for the elastic. A casing is a tunnel through which the elastic will thread. Remove the pins.

    • 5). Connect a safety pin to one of the elastic ends. Connect the other elastic end with a safety pin to the fabric of the casing. This is so you won't lose your elastic in the casing.

    • 6). Feed the safety pin/elastic through the casing until the pin/elastic emerges from the other end of the casing. Sew the elastic together and sew the casing closed.

    Baby Comforter

    • 1). Place one fabric rectangle on a table with the right side of the fabric facing you. Place the other rectangle on top of the other piece of fabric with the wrong side of the fabric facing you. Place the batting on top of the two rectangles and pin all three layers together.

    • 2). Sew the sides of the layers of fabric, on the sewing machine, using a 1-inch seam allowance and a straight stitch and leaving a 5-inch opening. You will turn the fabric right side out through this opening. Remove pins.

    • 3). Reach your hand through the opening, inside, to the other end. Pull it through the opening, turning the fabric right side out.

    • 4). Fold the edges of the top and bottom fabric inside against the wrong sides of the fabric and pin. Sew the opening closed on the sewing machine. Remove the pins.
