How to Set Up a Cinema Projector
- 1). Determine the throw ratio. This is the distance the projector needs to be from the screen for proper display. Check the projectors documentation to learn the preset ratio for the lens. If the lens is set to two, which means you will need two feet of distance from the screen for every foot of width of the display. Therefore, a 4-by-6 display would need the projector set 12 feet away from the screen.
- 2). Place the projector on a level surface, or mount the projector to the ceiling at the predetermined distance from the screen. The final resting position of the projector must be at a right angle to the screen.
- 3). Connect the projector to the video source, using the appropriate cables. Projectors come with various connection options, including HDMI, component, RGB Scart, S-Video or composite connections. The type of connection needed will be determined by the input source and the type of connections the projector is capable of accepting. Generally, the connections cannot be confused, as each is a different size, layout and color.
- 4). Dim all the lights in the room as much as possible. The darker the room, the better the display will project. Test the setup by turning on the projector to make sure the picture is centered on the screen or display area.
- 5). Make any adjustments needed to center the projection or further darken the room until the display is to your satisfaction. Adjust the feet on the projector if it is resting on a level surface to align the image if necessary. Adjust the focus and picture settings to further fine-tune the display until you have achieved the best-projected image possible.
