Compatibility of a Lumix DMC-L10 Lens
- The DMC-L10 uses a four-thirds lens mount, a new system developed in 2002 specifically for digital SLR cameras. The basic idea is that the image sensor in a four-thirds camera is about half that of the sensor in a 35mm camera, so the focal lengths of the lenses can be half for the same results -- a 300mm lens on a standard DSLR is equivalent to a 150mm lens on a four-thirds camera.
- The DMC-L10 camera uses a contrast-based auto focus system, so lenses that are designed for that system will work best with the camera. Leica has a 14-150mm zoom lens specific to the L10 that features an F-stop range from 3.8 to 5.6. Leica also has a wide-angle 14-50mm lens with the same aperture range.
- Though the two Leica lenses in Section Two are optimized for the L10, all four-thirds lenses will work well -- and you have a wide range to select from. Olympus, Panasonic and Sigma manufacture four-thirds lenses that will mount on the L10, so choosing the right lens depends on your photographic goals. You can choose from a wide-angle (9mm) lens to an 800mm telephoto zoom lens. Macro lenses and standard zoom lenses with low apertures are available too.
