How to Change Sofa Legs
- 1). Tip your sofa over and unscrew an existing leg to take with you to the store. That way you can be sure to match up the threads of the new legs to the existing furniture. You will usually need four legs, but long sofas often have an extra pair in the middle so make sure you count the existing legs.
- 2). Compare your sample leg to the available legs at your local store. Remember that longer legs are inherently less sturdy, so you want the new legs to be at least as thick as the ones being replaced, especially at the top where they connect to the sofa.
- 3). Check online providers if you don't find something suitable at the store. You might also see if there are any wood shops or furniture manufacturers or you can contact the manufacturer of your sofa and order new legs through them. As a last resort just about anyone with a wood lathe should be able to manufacture legs for you.
- 4). Once you obtain the new legs it is a simple matter to unscrew the rest of the old legs and screw the new ones into place.
