How to Decorate Food Tables for Weddings
- 1). Tie the buffet table into the wedding by incorporating the wedding's theme. You can do this by using tablecloths in the wedding's colors and adding flowers that match the bride's bouquet into flower arrangements that sit on the table.
- 2). Create visual interest by varying the height of the food items. Before you bring the food out, arrange boxes, serving trays and platforms so that the food will be presented at different heights. Cover these platforms with tablecloths to hide them and further tie in the presentation to the decor of the wedding.
- 3). Plan for textural and color interest with your menu. Nothing is more pleasing to a diner than to be presented with a colorful array of food choices. You can place crisp green apples, smooth yellow bananas and eye-catching red strawberries next to waxy yellow cheese for a visually and texturally appealing look. This is especially effective when you pair it with the smooth silky darkness and pleasing smell of chocolate as it runs through a chocolate fountain.
- 4). Catch the guests' attention with table accents. Mirrors, floating candles or lights scattered among the food can create a festive mood. Adding accents that repeat an overall wedding theme --- such as horse shoes or cowboy spurs at a western wedding --- can further tie the table into the wedding.
- 5). Think about the guests. No matter how nicely the table is decorated, it still needs to be convenient to guests. The first things on the table should be plates, napkins, eating utensils and cups. Place these where the guests can get to them easily. Lay food out in this order: salads, veggies, meats and finally desserts. Do not allow food tables to obstruct the flow of traffic.
