How to Make a Crescent Hobo Bag
- 1). Make the template. Draw a crescent shape on a piece of cardboard using a marker. Draw a 1-inch line on each pointed corner on the sides of the crescent shape. The corners need to be flat to attach the strap. For example, the crescent has an 8-inch height and a 12-inch width.
- 2). Place the wrong side of a fabric sheet on a level surface. Place the template on the fabric and pin it to the fabric. Trace the outline of the template with laundry chalk. Repeat to make another template outline.
- 3). Make the strap of the bag. Draw a 12-by-1-inch rectangle on the fabric using laundry chalk.
- 4). Cut along the outlines of the two templates and strap using fabric shears. Fabric shears are sharp and do not fray the edges of the fabric when cut.
- 5). Position the two template fabric pieces together. The wrong sides of the fabric should face outwards. Sew along the outside rounded edges using a thread and needle. Flip the fabric, so the right side of the fabric faces outward.
- 6). Insert one end of the strap into the flat 1-inch left corner of the crescent. Sew the end of the strap to the left corner. Insert the opposite end of the strap into the flat 1-inch right corner of the crescent. Sew the end of the strap to the right corner.
- 7). Place the outer edges of a zipper with a 12-inch length to the top edges of the crescent pieces. Sew the outer edges of the zipper to the wrong side of the fabric.
