    • 1). Insert the Windows XP Pro installation CD into your CD or DVD drive. Press spacebar as you do this if you wish to bypass the Autorun feature.

    • 2). Click the image-extraction software's desktop icon to launch it. Alternatively, navigate to the "Start" menu and select "Applications" to launch the image-extraction software from the Applications list.

    • 3). Right-click "Extract Microsoft Corporation.img" and select "Extract Microsoft Corporation.img." When prompted, select the folder on your computer to which you want to extract this image file. If you are compiling an XP recovery CD, extract the image to the folder where all the installation CD files were copied.
