How to Build Ceiling-Mounted Rod Holders
- 1). Hold a fishing pole up to the ceiling to determine the ideal position of the rod. Mark the location of the rod with a pencil, making special note of the positioning of the handle.
- 2). Position a 1-inch diameter section of PVC or conduit that is 12 inches long in position where the marking indicated the rod handle should go. Slide the mounting bracket over the pipe and position it on the ceiling. Mark the location of the mounting bracket screw holes on the ceiling.
- 3). Remove the bracket and drill out holes at each marking in the ceiling. Use a drill bit visibly smaller in diameter than the wood screws you intend to use. Reposition the bracket and pipe in their place. Set 2-inch wood screws through the mounting bracket and into the hole in the ceiling. Tighten the screws with a drill until the head of the screw is flush with the mounting bracket and tight to the ceiling. Repeat to add additional mounting brackets to the pipe if necessary.
- 4). Add additional pipes and mounting brackets on either side of the original pipe using the same method. Add as many as desired.
- 5). Position rubber or plastic rod holder gripping racks at a position halfway along the rod and mark the location of the attachment holes in the ceiling. Drill out the holes and reposition the rack in its place. Set 2-inch screws in the holes in the racks and then in the holes in the ceiling. Tighten the screws to attach the rack to the ceiling. Repeat for an additional rack near the tip of the poles.
- 6). Repeat the entire setup to add more racks in a line or in an additional location.
