How to Wire Speakers

    • 1). Determine which type of connector is used by the receiver(s) you will be hooking the speakers up to. “Spring terminals” will only accept pin connectors or base wire ends that are tinned. “Binding post connectors” can be used with either pin connectors or other connectors.

    • 2). Determine where your receiver(s) is located, or where additional ones (if needed) will be located.

    • 3). Place the speaker(s) in the parts of the room where you will want them to be located. Disconnect existing ones, if necessary.

    • 4). Using string, measure the distance from the receiver(s) to where the speaker(s) are/will be located. Place the string along the area where the speaker wire(s) will actually be running. (See Tips for more information.)

    • 5). Use the string to measure and cut off the length of speaker wire you will need. Go ahead and make the speaker wire a little longer than the string. This way, you will have some to spare if you needed it, and if you don’t, you can simply cut off the excess.

    • 6). Attach the wire to the speaker(s), using the proper connectors. Make sure the connection is a good one. Use additional connectors if needed to ensure that everything is secure.

    • 7). Run the speaker wire from the speaker(s) to the receiver(s), following the path you laid out with the string.

    • 8). Connect all speaker wire(s) to the receiver(s); check to make sure the connections are secure. Again, use additional connectors if needed.

    • 9). Secure the wire if it is running along the floor so that it will not be a hazard (see Warnings section for more information.)

Turn on the audio or visual equipment that the speaker(s) connect to, and check to make sure everything is working properly. Make adjustments or corrections, if necessary.
