How to Cut Mylar
- 1). Unroll the Mylar and lay it flat on your cutting board. Measure the dimensions you require and mark using your pen.
- 2). Cut the Mylar using long, steady snips with sharp scissors. Use scissors for larger, less precise cuts.
- 3). Draw the design or shape you'd like to cut from the Mylar using your pen.
- 4). Cut along the lines of your design using a utility knife. Move slowly around details to prevent the Mylar from tearing.
- 5). Plug the hot pen into an electric outlet and set to high, per the manufacturer's directions.
- 6). Trace along the most intricate aspects of your design using the hot pen. The heat will melt the plastic producing a sharp, clean edge.
