Temperature for the Care of Ficus Trees
- Most ficus trees require temperatures of at least 55 degrees F, but commercial growers raise ficus at 70 to 95 degrees F with a relative humidity of 60 to 100 percent. The deciduous Ficus carica, or common fig, serves as an exception because it survives temperatures as low as 10 degrees F.
- Moving potted ficus trees outdoors during the summer helps revive the plants, but they must be brought indoors when the temperature dips below 50 degrees F. Ficus trees do not respond well to indoor drafts, either. Try to keep the trees away from windows and doors.
- Excessive moisture and reduced light levels causes leaf drop during the winter..
Check the soil moisture in a couple spots 2 to 3 inches below the soil surface to see if the roots are in water. If the soil is not wet, move the ficus to an area that receives more light.
