Comments from developer: The site uses a tetradic colour scheme keyed off of the main logo colour red which is meant to convey the excitement associated with horse racing. All layout is done using css and no tables are used for layout only purposes. The layout is accordance with the golden ratio.
Comments from Jennifer Kyrnin: Nice CSS layout and it's clear that Pat did take some time to think about the colors and ratios.
I like that the fonts are larger than you typically see on websites. My inclination is to believe that people using a product like this might value a page that has an easier to read font. Why is the "Buy PlaceCompare Now" call to action written as a form button? Yes, it stands out a bit, but it looks somewhat out of place in the rest of the page. It could easily be made to stand out even more with a text link and colors to match the rest of the color scheme of the page. I would also spend some time on SEO - right now, this site is okay, but it's not clear what keywords (other than PlaceCompare itself) it might get optimized for. Also, in the HTML, there are several quotations, but instead of being in quote tags (blockquote or q) they are inside paragraphs with a class indicating they are quotes. To be more semantic, it would be better if these were inside blockquotes.
