The Best Herbicide for Boxelder
- Large boxelder trees must be cut down with a chain saw. Once that is accomplished, the stump can be treated with an herbicide.
- An herbicide containing glyphosate will work on boxelder. If the tree is growing in wetlands, choose an herbicide listed for use in wetland areas.
- If you are dealing with a small boxelder tree -- under 2 feet in height -- spray the herbicide onto the leaves. For trees that required cutting down, use a paint brush to apply the glyphosate directly to the top surface of the stump. If new growth appears, spray the sprouts with the herbicide.
