How to Make Sand Candles
- 1). Go to the beach and take a large bucket with you. Whatever bucket you use for mopping your floors should do. Grab a few shells while you are at it.
- 2). Pour the sand in to a large bowl. Add water to the sand until the sand becomes wet, but not soaking wet.
- 3). Create a hole in the sand by using a small shell to scoop it out. You can smooth the hole out with your fingers when you are done scooping out the sand. You can also use a butter knife to make the edges smooth. The size of the hole is up to you. If you want a small candle, then make a small hole. If you want a big candle, then make a big hole. You get the idea.
- 4). Grab one of your small shells. The small shell should fit in the bottom of the hole you just dug. Tie your wick around it and place it in the bottom of your hole. Hold the wick upright so that it is coming out of the hole.
- 5). Make the wax. Place a large pot on the stove and add 2 inches of water to the pot and bring to a boil.
- 6). Place the pouring pot in the middle of the pot on the stove. Turn your heat down to low and add your wax to the pouring pot. Melt completely.
- 7). Add melted wax to the hole in your sand and continue to hold on to the wick. The wick should stick out a few inches above the hole. You can always trim it down later. When the wax begins to harden, you can let go of the wick.
- 8). Let your wax cool down completely. Now carefully remove your candle from the sand.
- 9). Find a cute dish to display your candle on or give it away as a gift.
