How to Refinish Solid Surface Countertops
- 1). Mix one part bleach with one part water. Stir to combine. Clean the counters thoroughly with the solution and a sponge. Dry the counters with a clean towel.
- 2). Pour a small amount of water on the top of the counter. Sand the solid surface with coarse grit sandpaper. Move the sandpaper in a circular motion. Take extra time with any burn marks or stains. Move the sandpaper back and forth over the stain or burn until it is removed. Sand the area around the stain to blend the texture.
- 3). Switch to medium grit sandpaper. Sand the entire solid surface to smooth out any scratches caused by the coarse grit paper. Make sure the counter is slightly damp while sanding.
- 4). Change once more to fine grit sandpaper. Sand the entire surface again. Wipe away any moisture and sanding particles with a towel.
- 5). Dampen a scrub sponge and squirt abrasive cleaner on the sponge. Rub the entire counter in a circular motion bringing back the original luster and shine. Rinse the residue from the surface.
