U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts that the demand for Web designers will grow about 13 percent between 2008 and 2018, with individuals who have website design and animation experience finding the best opportunities for employment. A bachelor's degree is typically required to enter the field. A number of colleges and universities offer online programs that culminate with degrees and certificates in Web design. These schools prepare students for entry-level and advanced careers in Web design. - The University of California Irvine Extension offers an online Web design and development program that provides the fundamentals of website creation and design. The classes focus on tools to add dynamic features to Web pages, process images, and manipulate forms. Required courses include designing and developing Web content, Web graphics and photo editing with Photoshop, Web development with HTML, and JavaScript programming. Students complete 90 hours of course work to qualify for a professional certificate in Web design and development. Applicants must pass an English-proficiency test before enrolling in the program. The Western Association of Schools and Colleges accredits UCI.

unex.uci.edu - The Art Institute of Pittsburgh's online division offers three online programs in Web design: a 180-credit-hour Bachelor of Science degree in Web Design and Interactive Media, a 105-credit-hour Associate of Science degree in Web Design and Interactive Media, and a diploma in Web design that can be attained in one year. All programs are accredited by Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools, Commission on Higher Education. Both degree programs include a mix of general education courses and degree-specific courses that include design and typography, color theory, interactive authoring, web site development, writing, copyright law, web scripting, computer animation, and design fundamentals.
