University of California Irvine Extension

• The University of California Irvine Extension offers an online Web design and development program that provides the fundamentals of website creation and design. The classes focus on tools to add dynamic features to Web pages, process images, and manipulate forms. Required courses include designing and developing Web content, Web graphics and photo editing with Photoshop, Web development with HTML, and JavaScript programming. Students complete 90 hours of course work to qualify for a professional certificate in Web design and development. Applicants must pass an English-proficiency test before enrolling in the program. The Art Institute of Pittsburgh

• The Art Institute of Pittsburgh's online division offers three online programs in Web design: a 180-credit-hour Bachelor of Science degree in Web Design and Interactive Media, a 105-credit-hour Associate of Science degree in Web Design and Interactive Media, and a diploma in Web design that can be attained in one year. All programs are accredited by Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools, Commission on Higher Education. Both degree programs include a mix of general education courses and degree-specific courses that include design and typography, color theory, interactive authoring, web site development, writing, copyright law, web scripting, computer animation, and design fundamentals. Applicants must have a high school diploma or GED certificate and are required to pass a computer literacy test before they are allowed to enroll in Web design classes.

• Westwood College offers an online Bachelor of Science degree in Web Design and Multimedia that can be earned in a little as three years. The course consists of 197 credit hours. Courses include web page design, image editing, digital illustration, audio and video technologies, database design and development, and advanced authoring and design, as well as general education courses. The degree prepares students for entry-level positions in the field of Web design that include page designer, graphic designer, multimedia artist, and interface designer.
