How to Clean Play Dough Out of Carpet

    • 1). Allow the play dough to dry. If the play dough has been rubbed deeply into the carpet, allow it to dry before you attempt removal. Dried play dough will be easier to remove than damp, fresh play dough.

    • 2). Remove the play dough with a dull knife. You can also use a small kitchen spatula. Gently scrape at the dried play dough to remove as much as possible.

    • 3). Use isopropyl alcohol. Carefully pour isopropyl alcohol onto a terry cloth and blot at the stain. Mrs. Clean USA notes that "color and stain will transfer from the carpet pile to the terry cloth." Avoid rubbing the stain. This could push the play dough deeper into the carpet. Rubbing can also damage the delicate fibers of your carpet. Continue blotting until the stain is gone.

    • 4). Wash the stain with dish soap. If play dough still remains in your carpet, use soapy water to blot at the stain. Mix hand dish washing soap with cool water and use a terry cloth towel to clean the stain.

    • 5). Rinse the carpet. After you have removed the stain, be sure to rinse the carpet thoroughly to remove any excess isopropyl alcohol or soap. Dry the carpet with a towel.
