Trillium Ovatum

• Also known as Pacific Trillium, Trillium ovatum is an 8 to 20 inch tall perennial plant. Pacific Trilium bears a white flower that fades to a pink hue in one week's time. The flower grows on a short stalk which separates the flower from the three leaves below it. Pacific Trillium is also known as the Western wake-robin because the flowers blossom around the same time in the spring that robins arrive in the forest.
  
  

Trillium Cernuum

• Trillium cernuum grows to a height of 12 to 18 inches, and features a flower with three wavy petals and deep red anthers. Also known as the Nodding trillium, the flower grows on a long stem which droops or "nods" below the plants large green leaves. Once the flower of the Nodding trillium fades, a three-cornered purple berry takes its place and turns red over time. The berries of this trillium are toxic and should not be ingested.
  
  

Trillium Grandiflorum

• Trillium grandiflorum, also known as white trillium or large-flowered trillium, is often cultivated in gardens because it has the largest, most dramatic flowers of all Trillium variates. White trillium bears a single, large, white flower, atop a 12 to 15 inch stem. The flower is long-lasting and changes from white to pink as it matures. Native Americans would gather the roots of the white trillium and chew them for medicinal reasons. The leaves were also collected and cooked to be eaten as greens.
  
  

Trillium Erectum

• Native to eastern North America, Trillium erectum features a singular, three petaled flower. The crimson flower grows on a 6 to 18 inch stem and has diamond-shaped petals that curve backwards. Once the flower fades after two to three weeks, a berry-like fruit is left in its place. Also known as red trillium or stinking Benjamin, the flowers exude a foul, rotting odor which acts as an attractor for carrion flies, who serve as pollinators for the plant.
