How to Water Tomato Plant Leaves

    • 1). Connect a drip hose to your outside water faucet and snake the hose through your tomato plants. A drip hose weeps water through a neoprene coating. This allows you to water the base of the tomato plants just above the ground. Because of this, place the hose on the ground. Do not hold it above the plants.

    • 2). Turn on the hose and water the ground until the water seeps 2 inches into the ground during the morning hours. Since a drip hose weeps water, this will usually take around an hour depending on how dry the ground is. Complete this task two to three times per week during the height of summer and before the onset of fruit.

    • 3). Take into account natural rainfall. If you receive natural rainfall, forgo watering that day unless the rainfall only lasts for a few minutes.

    • 4). Slow down watering as summer ends and you have hanging fruit on the plant. This will encourage the tomato plant to produce fruit at a faster pace since it no longer gets the same amount of water.
