How to Cut a Slab of Granite With a Skil Saw

    • 1). Elevate the granite slab on a stable cutting surface. Depending on the size of the slab, you may need the help of several other individuals to lift and move the granite.

    • 2). Fit your Skil saw with a continuous diamond cutting blade. A standard Skil saw blade is not strong enough to slice through granite.

    • 3). Measure the area of the granite slab you intend to cut. Place contact paper over the area. Mark the cutting line on the contact paper with a marker. This prevents you from having to mark directly on the granite surface. Contact paper also helps prevent the granite's edges from chipping while you cut.

    • 4). Fill a spray bottle with water. Spray down the contact paper until it is saturated with water. Water facilitates the cutting process and helps prevent your Skil saw's diamond blade from overheating.

    • 5). Put on protective eyewear and gloves. Turn on the skill saw and cut the granite slab slowly along the line marked on the contact paper. Spray water on the contact paper and diamond blade periodically to keep the blade cool at all times.
