How to Guide for Valspar Signature Colors
- 1). Clean and prepare the walls properly. Clean with a mild solution of less than 10 percent detergent to water, and wipe clean with a wet cloth. Fill in any holes using spackling compound.
- 2). Protect any trim as well as the edges of the floor and the ceiling with masking tape. Lay plastic sheeting on the floor to prevent drips.
- 3). Open the paint can using a screwdriver or other tool. Dip an angled brush into the paint, and use smooth, horizontal stripes to paint an area several inches wide down from the ceiling and up from the floor. Repeat around all the trim.
- 4). Pour approximately 1/4 of the gallon of paint into a roller tray. Dip the roller into the paint, then roll it up and down the textured slope of the pan to consistently coat with paint. Roll the paint onto the wall, moving the roller at a 45-degree angle to the floor, in a "v" pattern. Overlap this pattern until the entire wall is painted. The paint will be dry to the touch in under an hour.
- 5). Wait 2-4 hours before applying a second coat, if necessary. Remove masking tape and plastic sheeting only after all surfaces are dry.
