How to Prepare QuarkXPress® Files for a Printer
- 1). Open the Quark file you want to send to your printer.
- 2). Click "FIle." Scroll down to "Export."Choose "Layout as PDF." This opens a new window for you to title the file. Click "Save as".
- 3). Click " Options." This opens a new window. Click " Compression" This opens a new window.
- 4). Select "Color Image" to " Automatic Zip JPG High."
Select "Resolution" to " Downsize to 300 DPI". Minimum resolution for commercial printers is 300 DPI, but you can set the resolution higher, according to the printer's press specifications.
Select " Grayscale" to " Automatic JPG High"
Select "Downsize to 300 DPI" or your printer's specified press designation. - 5). Select " Monochorme Images" to CCITT Group 4." This is industry standard setting for printing.
- 6). Check Box " Compress Text and Line Art."
- 7). Click " Capture Settings." This will take you back to your Quark file.
- 8). Click "FIle." Scroll down to " Export." Choose " Layout as PDF."
Check to make sure the file has your correct new title, with a PDF. suffix. - 9). Click "Save" to save to your desktop. You now have a high resolution press ready PDF file ready for your commercial printer's press.
Your printer's pre- press department will perform a " pre-flight check" to make sure your file is print worthy, or call you to resend a press ready PDF, if your file got corrupted during file transmission via the Internet.
