ACT Prep Classes – How to Choose the Best for You

In order to get into a four year college, a student is going to have to submit test scores from either the ACTs or the SATs. A good score on one of these tests can mean admission to a better college. So of course, doing well on them is important. Preparing for taking the tests is a process that most students will benefit greatly from.
So, there are basically three types of prep classes available for the student to prepare themselves for taking the ACTs: classes taken in a classroom, online classes and private tutoring.

€ Classroom €" There are certainly advantages to taking your prep classes in an actual brick and mortar classroom. The first advantage is that there is a teacher there with you to answer questions and explain things in real time. You can presumably work with that teacher on the areas that you need more help with. The potential downside may be the number of students to teacher ratio. If there are a lot of students in the class and only one teacher, one-on-one time is going to be severely limited. These types of classes can be expensive, and you want to know that the teacher is fully qualified to teach these prep classes. Investigate the success rate of these particular classes before you spend your money on them.

€ Online €" There are many, many websites offering ACT preparatory classes. Again, you want to investigate them fully before you spend your money. Just because they say they are qualified, you need to know if that is true or not ahead of time. You should choose classes that are tailored to the needs of the student. Concentrating on the student's weaknesses is important. And it is also important to find out ahead of time how the student can contact the teacher with problems or questions. How promptly does the teacher respond to emails, for instance? Be sure and check out the website and the school carefully before you spend your money.

€ Tutoring €" Personal tutoring can be expensive, but it often gives very good results. Tutoring can be done one-on-one or in classes of three students. This provides very personal attention and can focus on the student's particular needs. Again, one needs to investigate the qualifications of the tutor and their success rate. You don't want to spend this kind of money unless you know that the person teaching your student is the best possible choice.

Taking the ACTs can be a stressful experience. You want your student to have the best possible chance of doing well. Even straight A students can use some help in certain areas where they may not be as strong as others. You can tailor the prep class experience to concentrate on the weakest areas. It is just always a good idea to research whatever particular class you are thinking of getting your student into. Make sure the teacher is qualified. Make sure the curriculum is correct for the student's needs.
