How to Make a Helix Lanyard
- 1). Cut the four lanyard strands to the same length, about 12 times the length that you'd like the finished lanyard to be. (For example, if you'd like the finished lanyard to be 8 inches, each strand should be 8 feet long.)
- 2). Lay two strands horiztonally on a flat surface, and lay the other two strands vertically across them. They should cross at their centers.
- 3). Do one quad stitch by flipping the ends of horizontal strands one by one over the vertical strands to form four loops. Then weave each end of the two vertical strands over, under, over and under the four loops, in that order.
- 4). Pull four adjacent strand ends in one hand and the other four in the other to tighten the loop.
- 1). Form four loops with the horizontal strands, but use a different order than the typical quad stitch. Make the top loop using the strand end that is second from the top, and then the next loop using the strand end that is at the top. (The strands will not cross each other, but they will cross over the previous stitch.) Then make the third loop using the bottom strand and the fourth loop using the second-to-bottom strand.
- 2). Weave the vertical strand ends over, under, over and under the loops, but do it in a different order from the quad stitch. Weave the second-to-rightmost strand end first, which will make it the rightmost strand. Then weave the rightmost strand to the left of it, which will make it the second-to-rightmost strand. In other words, these two strands will essentially switch places.
- 3). Follow the same procedure with the leftmost strand, and then with the second-to-leftmost strand. These strand ends will now switch places.
- 4). Pull four adjacent strand ends in one hand and four in the other to tighten the stitch.
- 5). Continue adding stitches until the lanyard has reached the desired length.
