Zune - What Files Will it Play?

103 2
There is one question you need to have answered before you go out and buy any MP3 player, be it an iPod or a Zune.
That is - what music files will it play.
Well if you have just bought a Zune Player I will try to explain here what you can and can't play.
There are many places you can get music from, these can basically be narrowed down to three options; Your own cds Illegal download sites, Legal download sites.
Your own cd's can easily be downloaded to your Zune Player using the software that it came with, so they are not a problem.
If you are stupid enough to download music illegally then you can take your chances with the file format.
Legal download sites.
The largest of these is obviously iTunes, these guys apply management restrictions to all their files which basically means that any MP3 player that is not produced by Apple cannot play their music.
So if you have any music that you downloaded from iTunes it WILL NOT play on your Zune Player.
Zune players are similar to iPods in that they are made to be compatible with Zune services only, and not music purchased elsewhere.
That basically means that you should only use your own cd's or a licensed ZUNE site to download music to your Zune Player.
You can always buy more cd's, but that's not really necessary any more.
There are many sites that charge you per song you download (around a dollar a pop), but in my opinion your best option is to join an Unlimited Download site which are often very reasonably priced.
