How to Make Necklaces for Kids
- 1). Use scissors to cut a piece of string 2 feet long. Position the string around the child's neck like a necklace and adjust it to where he wants the necklace to rest. Add 2 inches to the length, then cut off the excess string.
- 2). Have the child gather jewelry beads of the shapes and colors she wants on the necklace and lay them on a towel in the order she wants them on the necklace. The towel keeps the beads from rolling around while you work.
- 3). Have the child pick one bead to go at the very end of the necklace. This will be the one that holds the other beads on the string while you make the necklace. Slide the end of the string through this bead, then tie the string in a knot around the bead to hold it in place.
- 4). Hold the string perpendicular to the ground with the beaded end closest to the ground. Slide the bead arrangement down the string, one bead at a time. Leave 2 inches of free space at the top of the string.
- 5). Make a loop at the top of the string. Place the loop around the bead at the opposite end of the string, and adjust it until it take some effort to remove the bead from the loop. Tie a knot at the bottom of the loop to make a clasp for the necklace.
