Still Here for the Fight

Have you ever had those moments where you feel as if you are taking two steps forward and a million backward...in other words, you feel as if you're going nowhere fast?

If you are like most people, this is probably because you're trying to go somewhere way too fast and fast is just not the way to do it.

What you want to do is take baby steps. Set small goals, reach those goals, and eventually you'll make it to the ultimate result.

How to make baby steps

You see, one of the issues that affect people is that they are only looking at the Big Picture. That isn't necessarily a bad thing, but it can become a problem if you also try to do too many of the smaller tasks at the same time. It is very easy to lose sight of one goal and only halfway complete it when you're trying to do too much at once. Multitasking has its place, but it is difficult to do when reaching an important goal.

If you're not sure how to take baby steps, it is quite simple. You need to sit down in a quiet place and write down what your goal is. Now you need to write down the individual elements involved in that goal.

Once you write down your goal and all of the individual steps to get there, you need to then organize all of those goals. Write down when you would like each goal to be completed, but make sure that you do so realistically. You also want to break down each of those smaller goals into steps. As yourself these questions:

* What steps are involved in achieving this small goal?
* What resources are needed to make it happen?
* What days of the week can I work toward this goal?

If you organize what needs to be done to make these baby steps, then you can work every single day toward that goal at some point. You don't want to overwhelm yourself, but you need to persevere. Keep working toward that goal every single day so that you can eventually reach it. Just be patient. Only after you know the little steps can you begin to take effective and meaningful action.

How to persevere

It can be quite frustrating when trying to reach a goal because there are things that get in the way. What you need to do is look at obstacles as valuable learning tools. When you learn from an obstacle, you are less likely to encounter it in the future or be defeated by it. When something happens, you want to get right back up and try again. This is how you're going to reach your goal. You can't just give up and hope it happens.

To achieve your goals, you have to be proactive. Even if you hit a rough spot, you will be more than proud of yourself when you follow all those baby steps and finally reach your goal. Fortunately, the great news is that you are a human being and human beings are persistent and devoted creatures. When we want something, we go for it. When we give up, we regret it. So the thing to do is go for it, go for it, go for it!
