Anthem D2v and AVM 40 Audio/Video Preamp/Processors - CES 2009
Anthem is a very well-known name in custom home theater installation and audiophile circles. This brand is targeted to the home theater installation market with high-end amplifiers, preamp/processors, that feature advanced features, connectivity, and control options. As a result, you will not find their components sold online or in mass market dealers, such as Best Buy. You have to go through a custom install dealer, or high-end audio or home theater retailer.
Shown on this page are two refinements of already excellent home theater products made by Anthem that were on display at CES 2009.
The top component shown in this photo is the Anthem AVM40 Audio/Video Preamp/Processor that has been upgraded to include the ARC (Anthem Room Correction) System.
Underneath the AVM40 are both front and rear views of the new Anthem D2v audio/video preamp/processor. The Anthem D2v incorporates several advanced features, many of which are not included on the AVM40, such as:
1. A total of Eight HDMI inputs.
2. Two HDMI outputs.
3. Meets HDMI 1.3c specifications.
4. Up to 36 bit color processing.
5.VXP Video processing, deinterlacing, and scaling.
6. Decoding of all HD audio formats, including Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio.
7. Inclusion of both Balanced (XLR) and standard analog and digital audio output connections.
The D2v also includes the ARC (Anthem Room Correction) System that provides for precise sound reproduction based on room parameters.
The listed price for the Anthem D2v is $7,999 and the AVM40 is about $3,500.
It is important reiterate that these Anthem components are Preamp/Processors only and still need external multi-channel or channel separate amplifiers in order to power a home theater speaker system.
Honorable Mention - Pioneer Home Theater Receivers
If the Anthem audio/video preamp/processors are out of the realm of affordability, Pioneer was on hand with a new line of very affordable home theater receivers that should draw a lot of attention. Two interesting entries in their new entry-level Home Theater Receiver line are the VSX-919AH and VSX-1019AH (photo). Both receivers offer HDMI connectivity, analog to HDMI video conversion, Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio decoding, and compatibility with iPods and iPhones via USB. The VSX-1019AH also adds 1080p video upscaling for all video sources and more flexible Zone 2 operation. Price and availability are forthcoming.
