How to Design Magnetic Picture Frames
- 1). Measure the length and width of the picture you will display in the frame. Draw a rectangle in the center of the magnetic sheet that is a quarter-inch smaller than the length and width measurements. This rectangle is the picture window.
- 2). Measure out from each side of the picture window to the desired width of the frame. A frame thickness between 1 inch and 3 inches works well. Mark the lines for the edge of the frame on the sheets at the measured points. Design the frame to have flat edges or draw a scalloped or jagged line to add further design elements to the frame.
- 3). Cut out the picture window and the frame from the magnetic sheet with a craft knife. Replace the blade if it begins to dull or it will not make clean cuts in the magnet.
- 4). Decide on a theme for the frame and embellish it accordingly. For example, a frame holding a pet picture may be decorated with a doghouse or pet food bowl. A frame for a graduation gift can be decorated with a cap and gown or the graduation year.
- 5). Arrange paper or fabric designs, wooden cut-outs, stickers and other embellishments on the frame. Move them around and play with the design until you determine exactly how you want to arrange them.
- 6). Glue the embellishments to the frame with craft glue. Use hot glue for heavy embellishments such as wooden cut-outs. Allow the glue to dry completely.
- 7). Place the photograph on the metal surface where you want to display it. Lay the magnetic frame over the photo, centering the photo in the window.
