How to Make Impressive Ice Pops

Making your own homemade ice pops is easy. Making those ice pops interesting and unique can be more of a challenge. After all, a popsicle is a popsicle, right?

Wrong. Just because ice pops are one of the easiest frozen desserts to put together doesn’t mean that they can’t look beautiful as well. Even a two-ingredient ice pop can be dressed up. Try these five simple tips to help make your treats a little more impressive.

Layers

One of the easiest ways to give your ice pops more visual interest is to build them in layers. Pour in the first flavor and put it in the freezer until it is firm. Then add the second flavor and the stick and return to the freezer until it is fully frozen. If you are using ingredients like yogurt and pudding, you can probably layer them without freezing first.

You can also swirl thicker mixtures together so they aren’t completely blended. Fruit purees are often thicker than juices, especially if you freeze the fruit before blending it up.

Fruit Slices

When you make your strawberry ice pops, don’t just puree all the fruit. Take whole slices of strawberries and tile them up the sides of the pop mold first. You can do this with many different fruits. If you like it frozen, it can be in an ice pop. Fill your mold up with frozen blueberries and then pour juice to fill in the cracks and hold everything together.

Unique Molds

There are plenty of basic ice pop molds on the market, but there are also options available that are more creative.

Buy a popsicle mold that is a unique shape and your pops will immediately be something different. After all, you don’t see star-shaped pops at the store very often.

Add Crunch

There are lots of different ways to add texture to an ice pop, especially if you are making one with yogurt or pudding as a base. Chop up nuts or candy and stir them in. Press some cookie crumbs on the exterior. You can even add graham cracker crumbs to the bottom to make a “crust” that would be perfect with strawberry cream cheese popsicles.

Dip Them

Dip your finished ice pop in chocolate to give it a sleek finish. This is a great option for flavors like strawberry, that are naturally delicious with chocolate.
