How to Enable DHCP on a Sun Fire V100

    • 1). Plug one end of the Ethernet network patch cable into the RJ45 socket on the DB9 to RJ45 connector. Plug the other end of the Ethernet network patch cable into the port labeled “A LOM” on the Sun Fire V100 computer.

    • 2). Plug the DB9 connector on the DB9 to RJ45 adapter into the 9-pin serial COM port on the Windows 7 computer.

    • 3). Click the “Start” button on the Windows 7 taskbar. Click the “Search” box, type “putty.exe” and press “Enter.”

    • 4). Click the “Serial” item located in the lower left corner of the PuTTY Configuration window.

    • 5). Enter the name of the serial COM port connected to the Sun Fire V100 into the “Serial line to connect to” field. Click the “Flow control” box, select the “XON/XOFF” option and click “Open.”

    • 6). Tap the “Enter” key three times. Type “console” on the command prompt and press “Enter.”

    • 7). Enter the username “root” and the root password when prompted, then press “Enter.”

    • 8). Type “ifconfig –a” on the command line and press “Enter.” Note the name of the network interface displayed in the command line output that you want DHCP enabled.

    • 9). Type “touch /etc/dhcp.hme1” at the command prompt. Replace “hme1” with the name of the network interface you want to use DHCP. Press the “Enter” key.

      Write “touch /etc/hostname.hme1” on the command line. Replace “hme1” with the name of the network interface that you want DHCP enabled. Press the “Enter” key.

      Type “ifconfig hme1 dhcp start” at the command prompt. Replace “hme1” with the name of the network interface you want to use DHCP. Tap the “Enter” key.
