Increasing Divorce Rate
Over 50% of the marriages in the United States are believed to end up in divorce. Statistics have also found that many other developing countries have the same high divorce rate. It is really disheartening to discover that a previously sacred union is not that valuable to some couples nowadays.
Marrying today is conducted only as a means to comply with the tradition rather than making it the solid foundation of a family.
Why is it that divorce or separation are a widespread issue? Maybe because most of the people linked to such cases are the popular persons like celebrities, athletes, politicians and other public figures that we see regularly.
But if you believe that the professions stated above are where the divorce rate is at peak, then you are mistaken. Policemen are the record holders. This is due to the following: A risky profession, authoritative uniform, badge and guns attract the opposite gender. But soon after the policeman's spouse realizes the danger and the hurricane-like life with his kind of profession, it ends up with divorce.
Almost 50% of first marriages ended in divorce in the US as well as many other countries like Russia, UK, New Zealand, Denmark, Australia and Canada. While two-thirds of second marriages end, three-quarters of third marriages are dissolved.
Have we really missed the real meaning of marriage? Do people marry because they are aware that if the marriage doesn't work, there is always a divorce that can end their union?
The value of marriage slipped dramatically over the years. This is based from the number of individuals who choose not to marry their partners and just live in a civil union, but still decide to have children. Because of this, it is likely for women to have children with different fathers.
Aside from the couples' dilemmas in a relationship, how a person was raised by his or her parents can also be a reason for the lack of commitment to marriage. If a child grows in a broken family or with parents who physically/verbally hurt each other, he or she has a high possibility of being careless towards commitment.
Another factor to look at is one's religion. If a person doesn't believe in a deity -- specifically in Christianity-- then there is no meaning to the marriage vows. It's just like reciting a poem and forgetting it in time.
On the other hand, there's a 40% less divorce rate for couples who already have kids --significantly low compared with couples who have none. Though the smaller percentage made a difference, let's think of those children involved in a broken marriage. In the future, these kids might be an addition to the number of marriages that end up in divorce because they can perceive that divorce is a normal thing in marriage. How can they build a strong marriage if their own foundation is weak?
Remember that one-third of the children out there came from broken families. First divorce occurs at the age of 33, which is also the average age of people with children. For kids, this is the time when parental guidance and influence is most needed.
Divorce and the lack of trust in marriage vows are just a few of the issues our society is currently experiencing. Some people marry their partners just for the sake of marrying them and because they are aware that divorce is there if things don't work out well.
If starting and ending a marriage is just as easy as ABC today, then imagine how many casual partners our children will have in the future. We are moving forward when it comes to technology, but our moral is running backwards. Back to the old structure like that of a chimpanzee.
Female chimps can have more than one partner --and have children from each of them. Because her present mate cannot determine which baby is his, he takes full responsibility for all the babies. A genuine trait that even a human will find hard to do.
If you have solid religious beliefs and give a high value to marriage, it is likely that your marriage will not end in divorce based from the statistics. Also, loyalty and respect for the vows you have made in front of the church and to each other will enlighten you with a deep meaning of what marriage is all about.
Marriage is not suitable for people whose goal is to have a comfortablelife or to get a partner who will supply his or her needs. It is always a work in progress that needs effort from both parties.
