How to Repair a Cracked Shower Recess
- 1). Put on all protective gear.
- 2). Sand down the cracked areas, using the various grits of the sandpaper. Start with 120-grit and work your way up to the 400-grit. Remove any loose chunks of material.
- 3). Apply the two-part epoxy. It will self-mix, so there is no need to have to measure and nix components. Work it down into all deeper crevices, using the plastic putty knife. Let it dry for several hours.
- 4). Apply a second coat if needed to level out the repair area with the rest of the shower base. Let dry for several hours before using the shower.
- 1). Separate the items from the tub and shower repair kit. Kits vary, but usually consist of sandpaper, hardener, catalyst, mixing container or spray bottles, and sometimes color tint.
- 2). Sand down the affected areas as indicated in the first section.
- 3). Clean the area with the spray degreaser and rough sponges.
- 4). Spray on or brush on the hardener. Let dry for several hours. Mix any tint needed and brush it on. Let dry for several hours again.
- 5). Apply one to two coats of the catalyst, overlapping the application as you go. Let dry for several hours.
