How to Download New iPod Software Versions Without Losing Your Music
- 1). Connect your iPod to the computer that contains your iTunes library. Doing so will launch iTunes and begin the syncing process.
- 2). Click on the "Summary" tab in the iTunes device manager. Once iTunes has completed syncing with the attached iPod, click on the "Summary" tab to check for updates and manage the contents of the iPod.
- 3). Click on "Check For Updates." This will cause iTunes to see if there are any system updates for your iPod's operating system. If there are any updates, a dialog box will appear with the upgrade information.
- 4). Select "Download and Install." ITunes will download the system upgrade from the Apple server and install the upgrade onto your iPod. During this process, the operating system of your iPod will be upgraded, but no changes to the contents will be made.
- 5). Disconnect iPod when sync is complete. Once the upgrade process is complete and the upgrade is installed, disconnect the iPod from the sync cable. The contents of the iPod will remain unchanged and the new system upgrade will run.
