Eee Docking

Eee Docking is a special toolbar created by computer manufacturer Asus that is featured on Eee PC computers running Windows XP or Windows 7. The toolbar may look slightly different, depending on which operating system your Eee is running, as well as your geographical region. The Eee PC s sold worldwide and Asus tailors the docking toolbar for different regions, based on licensing availablity and consumer requirements.

Features

Asus Eee PCs come with built-in webcams, so you can chat with friends online or record videos of yourself to share with others. As netbooks, Eee PCs are designed to be lightweight and portable, intended primarily for accessing the Internet. As such, some typical buttons you might see in your Eee Docking setup are Eee Access, Eee Sharing, Eee Xperience and Eee Tools. Clicking each button reveals a drop-down menu with more options. Eee Access includes access to Asus Web storage and Game Park. Eee Sharing gives you instant access to the webcam. Eee Xperience opens the Eee Splendid program, which gives you tools for optimizing how videos and photos appear on the screen.

Eee Tools and Customization

Eee Tools allows you to adjust how the Eee Docking toolbar is displayed, including opacity levels and font selections for the menu. You can also decide on placement of your Eee Docking toolbar. By default, it’s located at the top of the screen. However, you can also move the toolbar where it suits your needs better, including the bottom, left or right of the screen. The drop-down menu under Eee Tools also contains the Live Update link, so you can manually check for updates to your Eee Docking toolbar if you haven’t set your computer to automatically check for updates whenever you connect to the Internet.

Considerations

Just because some features are listed in the drop-down menus of Eee Docking doesn’t mean they’re already installed on your netbook. When you try to access such a feature, the Eee PC will prompt you to download the necessary software. If you don't need the feature, don't forget to uninstall it, as they may take up valuable resources on this lightweight netbook. Asus cautions that buttons, features and programs offered through Eee Docking may change at any time, and are not the same on all Eee PC models.
