How to Make a Slinky Bead Bracelet

    • 1). Thread a number 12 beading needle, using no less than 4 yards of thread. It is recommended that even more than 4 yards be used – but not usually more than 5. Add beads of the varying sizes in the following order: one size 8/0, one size 14/0, one size 8/0, one size 14/0, one size 8/0, and finally another one of size 14/0.This will form your first row of beads.

    • 2). Tie the row you just created into a circle and leave approximately 10 inches of thread hanging down as a "tail" to later use for the bracelet clasp. Thread the needle through the very first bead (size 8/0) you strung and repeat the steps above, creating a second row, third row, and so forth. Each time you add the various sized beads, you are creating a single row. Continue this pattern until you have gotten all the rows you'd like, but for rows two and all even rows beyond the original, use a 14/0 and an 11/0. Then for the third and other odd rows, use an 11/0, 14/0, and 11/0.

    • 3). Stop when you have beaded a bracelet that is slightly shorter than the wrist measurement of the person the bracelet is for. Decrease the amount of beads toward the end by reducing the amount of beads until you sew just two together to form a final, small row of two. Use the thread “tail” to add a clasp, hook, or anything else you'd like to have on your bracelet. Also add a clasp or other attachment to the remaining thread on the other end, so you can close your bracelet and make it wearable.

    • 4). Start a new thread and pass it through a bead that is closest to the tip of the Dutch Spiral you have now created. Add a 10mm bead, followed by an 11/0 bead, a 14/0 bead and another 11/0. Lay a piece of French coil onto the thread and pass just the French coil through the end of the clasp you previously attached. A toggle clasp works well for this type of bracelet. Thread back through with the coil and end with it close to the thread once again. Tie two knots using the thread and tail left behind from the new piece of thread. Turn the bracelet over and repeat this until all beads and strings are secure.
