How to Connect the Cords for a Sony Camera to a Computer
- 1). Review your camera's owners manual to determine the end types on your camera's data transfer cable. Most cameras require one of several cable types: USB-to-USB, Mini-USB-to-USB, or Firewire (iLink/IEEE-1394). In some cases, Sony requires a cable which has a special proprietary plug on the camera-end of the cable, in which case such cable must be purchased directly from Sony.
- 2). Turn on your computer, and while it is starting, plug the camera-end of your data cable into your Sony camera and then turn the camera on.
- 3). Plug the computer-end of the data cable into an available jack on the front or back of your computer once the computer is started and you are logged in. If the cable-end is a thin rectangular-shaped plug which is about 1/2-inch wide, it is most likely a USB-style plug. Plug this end into an available USB jack on your computer. If the cable-end has a plug that is about 1/4-inch wide with the top edge longer than the bottom, then it is most likely a Firewire plug. Plug this end into an available Firewire/iLink jack on your computer.
- 4). Start your photo transfer software on the computer and proceed to transferring your files from the camera to your computer in a normal fashion.
