Paleo Diet, Where should I start

101 4
Okay so I really have been immersed in the entire Paleo recipe and health craze. I was not actually fat; although I understand that the Paleo diet can really help you lose weight as well. My overall thought was, "hey maybe this is the way we were intended to eat". So I began my research and bought just about every Paleo cookbook out there. I was lucky to find several good ones in the mix. But I have to admit I found many terrible ones as well. Ones that didn't really explain what the Paleo diet was or what you should or shouldn't do. The bottom line on many of them were that they simply were just another group of recipes and some of them I was not even sure that they were Paleo diets at all. The idea of a Paleo diet is a small but great lifestyle change. After a few weeks of eating the Paleo way, I really noticed my energy pick up as well as my mental endurance increase.

So the question is, what is the Paleo diet and why are there so many people touting how great it is?

The basic breakdown of the Paleo diet is to eat the same way that our ancestors ate. I dont mean grandpa and great grandpa, I mean our Paleolithic ancestors.

I know your first thought is why would I want to do that?

Well many people believe that it is the diet we evolved on and that are bodies are geared to processing those types of food.

Okay that makes a little sense, but do I really want to eat a woolly mammoth and what about all the other issues like the parasites they probably had?

It does not mean eat raw meat nor eating woolly mammoths. Instead it means eating food that our caveman ancestors would have eaten. Things they would have hunted, fished for, gathered and such. I promise you, you can still find all of this stuff in the local store. Things like chicken, turkey, beef, pork, lamb, fish, nuts, leafy greens, veggies, fruits and seeds. The strictest people say you have to stick to regional foods; though, I don't really agree with that. Although it would cut down on the carbon emissions as well to help with the greenhouse gasses, but that is another story all together.

Well it has been a Paleo life for me since I started to utilize the idea. Here is a good place to get started and learn more about it. I would highly recommend The Paleo Recipe Book. I think I have made just about every one of the recipes in this cookbook. There are very few cookbooks that I would ever say that about. To be honest this was my first Paleo cookbook, and I have tried many, but this is my favorite. When I say, "my favorite", I really mean none of the others even come close to it. Maybe I am partial because it was the first one I bought and was the one that changed my lifestyle in general, but hey. I still love it.
