Space Planning

• Before you begin planning colors and selecting furniture, measure your office space. Have a good idea of your space so that you are sure not to buy furniture that's too big or too small for your space. Sketch out a rough diagram of your room and begin to mark where you might put furniture pieces and accessories. No need to be terribly specific just yet, this is just to get your brain thinking about the space and what it can hold.

• Come up with a theme for your home office, whether it's simply a color scheme or a theme built around some of your favorite things. • Choose furniture pieces that are sturdy, stylish and in line with your theme. You need key items like a desk, a chair, a bookcase and a filing cabinet, at minimum. Consider whether or not you need additional storage space, like shelving on the walls or additional bookcases.
  
  For ultimate comfort and support, you may opt to set up your workspace ergonomically, selecting chairs and desks that fit your work style. These pieces typically support your neck, back, arms, hands legs and eyes. Most office furniture stores and superstores offer these styles.
  
  

Lighting

• Select lighting that will not only compliment your workspace, but that will provide you with sufficient light to see what you're working on in your office. You may opt for a desk lamp and a floor lamp so you have an option what type of lighting you want to use throughout the day.
  
  

Accessories

• Accessorize your home office with pieces that fit your theme and match your style. Consider purchasing or creating pictures for your walls. You can also decorate with throw pillows, curtains and rugs. Fresh flowers, scented candles and potpourri can also add to your office ambiance.
  
  

Inspiration Board

• Create an inspiration board for your office space by piecing together words and images that are important to you and what you hope to accomplish in life or in your home office. An inspiration board serves as a focal point you can look to throughout the day for creative energy.
