Ways for Students to Travel
- Instead of planning a trip yourself, allow your school to do all the work by tagging along on a school-sponsored trip. Visit your school's tour office or speak to a guidance counselor or academic adviser about your desire to travel. This individual can either give you information on trips in which you may be interested, or point you in the direction of someone who can.
- Many companies specialize in tours designed for students. By taking part in one of these tours you can benefit from having a pre-planned itinerary and traveling with people who are similar to you. Seek out a company that specializes in student tours and select a tour destination that most appeals to you.
- If you want to see the world and make it a better place at the same time, head out on a volunteering trip. Take part in a trip to an area hard-hit by natural disaster or in need of some assistance, partnering with a philanthropic organization such as the American Red Cross. Not only does taking this path give you the chance to make a difference, it also may allow you to travel free-of-charge or at a highly reduced rate.
- If you want to make your trip long-term, seek a study abroad opportunity. Study abroad opportunities are available for students of all ages and give you the chance to experience life in a country different from yours. Speak to your academic adviser for information on taking part in this type of program.
- Traveling doesn't have to mean heading abroad. Instead of crossing an ocean in your attempt to see what is out there, think more locally. Try a simple road trip with a friend or group of friends, discovering rather economically the wonders that are just beyond your doorstep.
