How to Lay Wood Floors With Concrete Foundation
- 1). Sweep the concrete to remove any dirt and debris. Scrub the concrete with a cleaning solution of 1 oz. citrus cleaner to 1 gallon water. Let the floor dry thoroughly. Apply a coat of a commercial concrete sealant to the floor and let this dry. Apply the sealant with a brush or roller.
- 2). Measure and cut your boards for the first row. Apply a layer of wood floor adhesive to the concrete with a brush, making a strip that's just slightly wider than the wood. Place the boards onto the adhesive and press firmly. Be sure to leave a gap of 1/4 inch between the board and the wall to allow for expansion of the wood.
- 3). Measure and cut your boards for the next row, Stagger the location of the ends of the boards by several inches when placing each row. Apply adhesive to the floor and set the boards into position as you did with the first row.
- 4). Continue until the entire room has been covered. Let the adhesive dry for 12 to 24 hours before allowing traffic onto the wood floor.
