Internet Use by University Students
- Searching for keywords in search engines is easy. Students can use search engines, such as Yahoo, Google, or Bing. Simply enter the term or exact phrase with quotations into the search box, and press enter. The search engine will list a variety of sites were information can be found.
- Sending and receiving e-mails is required at university level. Also, many professors make turning in assignments via BlackBoard, as an e-mail attachment, or as a posting to a class forum or Web page mandatory.
- Communicating with professors and other students via online forums can enhance a students understanding of class subject matter. Forums are also a great place to post questions about material or assignments.
- Learning how to research online databases in tiresome, but extremely important. Most university libraries will hold courses to teach students how to appropriately use databases, such as Google Academic, JSTOR, and LexisNexis.
- Knowing how to create online profiles can be helpful for students. Students, and sometimes professors, can communicate and ask questions via their profiles on MySpace, Twitter, and Facebook.
