    • 1). Wash the labret piercing and surrounding area using warm water and a gentle, anti-bacterial soap. While washing, rotate the stud so that water can flow into it and flush out any bacteria. Wash the labret twice per day, after showering or grooming.

    • 2). Dry the labret with a disposable tissue. Using a towel is not recommended, as a towel can harbor bacteria and the bacteria may re-enter the piercing. Tissues are clean and disposable.

    • 3). Create a warm compress from a small towel and hot water. Place the compress on your labret piercing if the piercing is showing signs of infection, such as redness, tenderness and foul smell.

    • 4). Make an appointment with a physician for a labret piercing that continues to show signs of infection and foul smell. He may prescribe topical or oral antibiotics to fight the infection. Keep the piercing in place until you can be seen by the doctor.
