How Logging Can Save the Rainforests

Its about using old world technology, and new world forestry, in third world countries.
In other words, using basic hand tools, coupled with modern advances in forestry, to help people in poor countries live sustainable lives.
To show you how this solution works, we must first look at the problem.
It's all about basic the needs of the indigenous people of the rain forest.
These folks are a lot like us.
They have basic needs that require income.
Put yourself in their shoes.
You are a poor Amazon rain forest farmer.
Your only source of income comes from the land on which you live.
The more of your land that you can farm or graze cattle on, the more of life's necessities you can acquire.
Your scratching out a living, barely able to feed your family, when along comes someone offering to buy your trees and clear cut your land.
You jump at the chance because it puts a little cash in your pocket, and it makes more of your land available for farming.
It just makes sense economically.
You have met the eco-tourists, saying how beautiful the rain forest is and how important preserving it is for the environment.
You think, well, that's a great idea, but it doesn't feed your family.
What do you do? The same thing all your neighbors did.
Sell your trees and clear cut your land.
You have provided for your family...
for now.
What if their was a better way? What if you could use the forest for the trees? What if you could cut down say one small tree at a time and make a living at it? What if it was important to your livelihood to preserve your forest? Well, thanks to Green Wood Global there is! This organization provides the tools and knowledge that is needed to make something of high value out of a minimal amount of trees.
They show local people how to use basic woodworking hand tools to make beautiful chairs, bowls, and other pieces of art.
Using fifty to one hundred dollars worth of hand tools they make wood art that is both beautiful and functional.
Then they sell their art work and are able to make a living that can be sustained.
These artisans have learned to use lesser known tree species that were previously thought of as junk or weed trees.
This prevents those species from being discarded, and or, burnt.
Green Wood Global also teaches these residents of remote rain forests how to harvest trees with the lowest environmental impact.
With this knowledge people can use sustainable logging to cut only the trees they need.
They harvest with axes and saws and use ATV's or oxen to skid the logs.
These methods have a much lower impact on the eco-system than heavy skidders do.
Green Wood Global is making a lasting impact on the economy and the environment.
They understand the problem and have offered the best solution.
One in which everyone wins.
