    Vertical Cement

    • 1). Rinse vertical cement surfaces, using a pressure washer. Focus water pressure on dirt and cobwebs. Wait between two and four hours for the vertical cement to dry completely.

    • 2). Cover with painter's tape any areas you do not want painted. Lay drop cloths to protect the area below the surface to be painted. Apply acrylic latex primer to the clean vertical cement surface, using a roller and roller frame. Use a paintbrush to apply primer to areas inaccessible by the roller. If necessary, use an extension ladder to reach the highest part of the surface. Wait three hours for the primed vertical cement surface to dry.

    • 3). Wash your paintbrush, nap roller cover and roller frame with plain tap water.

    • 4). Apply one coat of paint to the primed vertical cement surface just as you did the primer. Wait two hours. Apply another coat of paint only if the primer bleeds through.

    Horizontal Cement

    • 1). Examine the instructions that came with the muriatic acid etching kit you purchased. Don the appropriate safety gear. Etch horizontal concrete surfaces, using the muriatic acid etching kit.

    • 2). Wait between two and four hours for the horizontal cement to dry completely.

    • 3). Mix the epoxy catalyst with the epoxy resin in a 5-gallon bucket using a wooden stir stick. Stir for five full minutes.

    • 4). Apply the epoxy paint to the etched horizontal cement surface, using a roller affixed to a roller extension pole. Wait eight full hours before walking on the horizontal cement surface.
