How to Refinish & Polish Wood Floors
- 1). Load the coarse-grit sandpaper into the floor sander and sand the floor. Move in parallel lines, making sure to go with the grain of the wood so that you do not scratch the floorboards.
- 2). Vacuum up all dust and debris, then load the fine-grit sandpaper into the floor sander and sand down the floor again. Once finished, vacuum up all debris again.
- 3). Apply the sealer to the perimeter of the room with the paintbrush. Hold the paintbrush like a pencil and paint in smooth strokes. Again, be sure to go with the grain of the wood.
- 4). Apply the sealer to the center of the room with the floor applicator. The applicator will allow you to paint several boards at once. Work in parallel lines and go with the grain of the wood.
- 5). Allow the sealer to dry, then apply a layer of polyurethane finish using the same procedure in Steps 3 and 4. Allow the polyurethane to dry, then add a second coat. Once this dries, add a third coat. Let this coat dry before walking on the floor.
