    • 1). Create an outline for your speech. You will only have a certain amount of time to share crucial, life-altering information with your audience. Begin with a question such as, "How long would you like to live?" Or, "How many of you plan to suffer from heart disease?" This will get the audience thinking about how their decisions impact the quality of their lives. Plan the rest of your speech around your opening line. You may offer ways to increase life expectancy or how to avoid cardiac troubles.

    • 2). Research supporting facts. Regardless of your personal expertise, it is crucial that you only convey information and advice that is supported by thorough research. For example, if your speech is about heart disease, build your speech around information found on the American Heart Association's website.

    • 3). Practice aloud. Become comfortable with the words you have planned. When the day of your speech arrives, you should be able to speak to the audience in an engaging and conversational tone. If you are nervous or uncomfortable, the audience is likely to focus on your awkwardness rather than your message. Begin practicing in front of a mirror, and then get friends and family to listen. Ask a friend to create a distraction during one of your practices. If you get rattled by the distraction and cannot continue your speech, plan to practice more.

    • 4). Remember that your speech is important to the audience. This is especially helpful if you tend to get nervous about public speaking. Keep in mind, if you can get through to the audience, your words can make a difference in their lives. Focus on the message you wish to convey and speak clearly.
