One term that's now common among people trying to kick the habit of smoking is 'giving up smoking -cold turkey'.
What it means is an immediate and complete withdrawal from smoking.
There is no cutting down on the number that you smoke, you just simply stop.
The debate that is raging now is that it has higher relapse rates than other methods of quitting smoking.
Basically there is some truth in this.
For many smokers trying to kick the habit on their own is not easy.
Quitting smoking is like trying to lose weight.
There are now pills or drugs that you can take.
You could try the patches or cutting down gradually the number that you smoke.
Do you know of anyone that lost weight through the weight loss pills or drugs? Or by cutting down on the amount of food they eat.
Okay these methods do to some extent help but their effectiveness is really minimal.
Giving up smoking cold turkey does work if you know how to do it.
If you have enough information on what it involves, what to expect and how to deal with it.
This is really an effective way of quitting.
With a good solid foundation to stand on, I do not think you can be shaken on your decision to kick the habit.
Quitting cold turkey basically reflects on your determination to stop and if you feel you've had enough then hey you've had enough.
I will emphasize again that giving up smoking cold turkey will work if you are prepared for it.
The reason some people fail is they make the decision; which is good but don't know what to expect and how to deal with it.
This method is not as cold as people make it out to be and for those who've done it they will tell you how easy it is.
