How to Sew Lined Panel Curtains

    • 1). Measure the window. Your curtain will have two panels, and each panel should equal roughly the width of the window.

    • 2). Measure the height of the window and decide where you want the curtain to fall. You will want to add two inches to the height to account for the hem.

    • 3). Cut two lining panels to the measurements. Cut the curtain panels, making them three inches wider and two inches longer than the lining panels

    • 4). Fold up 3/4 of an inch on the bottom of all four panels and iron it flat. Fold up another 3/4 of an inch and iron it on all four panels.

    • 5). Stitch the bottom hems along the folded lines.

    • 6). Put the lining panels on a table, nice side facing up. Lay the curtain panels on top, nice side down. Since the curtain panels are larger, make sure the lining panels are centered in them.

    • 7). Sew the top edges of the lining and curtain panels together with a 1/2 inch seam. Turn the sewed fabric under on the seam line and sew again, this time with a 1/4 inch seam.

    • 8). Lay the sewed-together panels on the table with the curtain side down. Fold the curtain edges up and over the lining, ironing it smoothly. These folds should be on the two sides and the bottom. Sew the sides and bottom with a 3/4 inch seam.

    • 9). Make two holes in each panel's lining for the curtain rod, one on either side, right inside the edge. The hole should be about 1 1/2 inches down from the top seam line, and should be twice as long as your curtain rod is wide.

Thread the curtain rod through the holes on the panels, so that they do not show. Hang the curtain rod, with both panels, in the window.
