How to Bake a Train Cake
- 1). Mix a cake batter based on any recipe you like. Pour the batter into one regular sheet cake pan and one loaf pan and bake. Let the cake cool completely.
- 2). Cut the loaf cake into four equal size pieces, so you have four rectangular cake pieces that will make up the train cars. Set one slice aside.
- 3). Frost the sheet cake with a coat of frosting. Set three of the rectangle cake pieces upright on the sheet cake in a line, leaving about an inch between each so that they resemble the cars of a train.
- 4). Put one doughnut hole on each side of the front and back of each rectangular cake piece to resemble the wheels of the train.
- 5). Cut two circles out of the remaining fourth slice of cake. Make one circle larger than the other. Use the rim of a glass as a guide if you have trouble cutting a circle.
- 6). Place the smaller circle piece on top of the front train car and place the larger circle on top of that, making the steam engine topper. Secure with a toothpick if it looks like it might fall over.
- 7). Dye some frosting with red food coloring and frost the three rectangular cake pieces with it. Use some white frosting to draw on square windows along the train cars.
- 8). Trim a piece of licorice rope into 1-inch pieces and lay them between each rectangular cake piece to look like the cable connecting the train cars.
